Last week we saw how vital it is, never to take lightly the changes, that God brings into our lives as Christians. Those changes which comes through the washing of the word of God, the cleansing of the blood of Jesus and the work of purification by the Holy Spirit; are all meant to prepare us in serving the Lord as we wait for His return – Maranatha!

The changes that God brings into our lives in these ways are eternal. It is God’s goodness and loving kindness towards us, that makes this possible for us. We did nothing to deserve such an abundance of His grace, that is made available to us in this way.

But those who do reject the moves of God for change in their lives, are inviting His wrath upon themselves.

The writer of the book of Hebrews says:

“For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:30-31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Yes, it is a dreadful and dangerous thing to reject, any move of God for change in our lives. Those changes makes us strong in His kingdom. God will never force anything on anyone, but there are eternal consequences for rejecting His moves for change in our lives.

The scriptures made us to realize that before the day of the Lord:

“Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute…

…if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.”

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:2, 9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God will rescue those who had been transformed and changed to be like Christ, from the harms that is coming upon those who have rejected Him.

Even though many of them still continue to hear the gospel being preached to them, but they had decided not to believe what they are hearing. They do not want to be transformed and changed to live godly lives, because they love the works of unrighteousness.

Hope makes Grace available as we are changed

But it is the hope in the eternal salvation, that makes the grace of God available for those who had received and allowed God to change them.

Apostle Peter told us about this grace:

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There is a Christian hope that makes grace available for us, as we wait for the coming of the Lord. Hope in this way is strengthened through grace.

 Faith, Hope and Love

But for those who had been changed, it is the Christian hope for the day of the Lord, that makes us stronger and stable, as we do exploits in the kingdom of God.

Our Christian hope in the return of the Lord, is based on the real and present substance of faith. The substance of our faith primarily comes through His written word into our hearts. Our faith in God is  based on the intangibility of the word of God.

But hope itself stems from faith. Faith is for now, as hope secures our faith in the return of the Lord.

Both faith and hope are aligned together; but for both of them to work for us, we need the love of God working through our hearts to manifest the grace of God.

That’s why Paul said:

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We can therefore define the Christian hope as a calm, confident expectation of the loving kindness and goodness of God in our lives.

Apostle Peter again wrote:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

For our hope to be both calm and confident, it has to be living. A living hope gives us a strong expectation, for the return of the Lord.

There are so many people in the world today, who do not have a living hope in the return of the Lord. They are believers in Christ, but the absence of the living hope makes them unproductive in the kingdom of God. They live a lifestyle that is devoid of any expectation for the return of the Lord.

The day of the Lord and Global Warming

We are challenged by God’s word:

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We must always be ready and prepared to give an answer to those, who are enquiring about the hope of our salvation for the day of the Lord. But we are commanded here to do it with “gentleness and respect” for one another.

There are many times when I had personally had to explain, the Christian hope in the day of the Lord, to the so called  “climate change advocates.” They are always seeking a favorable (to themselves) biblical explanation to support their ideology, in explaining the changes in the global climate.

What they are often ignorant of is the fact, that the scriptures had already declared that these things will happen. There is absolutely nothing strange about all of these changes in our world, to a Christian who has a hope for the return of the Lord.

Global warming advocates and the so called “worshippers of climate change” will never repent, even with the gospel being preached to them, in explaining biblically the climate events that they are advocating.

Apostle Peter warned us about them in 2 Peter chapter 2.

The changes in the global climate are all from the same God; who created the earth, the heavens, the sun and everything in them. Climate change is not the result of human activities, but it is the beginning of the judgment of God on earth.

The scriptures says:

“But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.”

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:5-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The destruction of the heavens and earth on the day of judgment, is a process that has begun already through the changes in the global climate. This is a prelude to the events that must occur before the day of the Lord comes.

They’ve started occurring now because God is warning us, in order to get us ready for that day of the Lord. And God is using these changes also, to warn every sinner on earth to repent of their sins.

These warning signs are very important for every believer in Christ and the unbelievers.

For the believers they are meant to warn us, in getting us ready to meet the Lord. For the unbelievers, they are meant to warn them, about the judgment that is coming on them for rejecting the Son of God.

But unfortunately like in the days of Noah many heard the message of Noah, and gave no regard to his warning. The very same thing is going on in our world today.

The scriptures says:

“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.”

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:4-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

These changes in the global climate will continue to get worse, as we come closer to the day of the Lord’s return. No amount of efforts by humans or governments can ever change, what God had pre-determined to occur.

Receive Jesus into your heart now, and be saved from the destruction to come

The Bible said again:

“The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16:8-9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What we are seeing happening now concerning climate change, is a preparation to the events highlighted by John in Revelation chapter 16. Even with all of these changes happening globally now, many will still remain unrepentant. They will choose to blame God for anything, just as many of them are already doing now.

Blaming God for anything can never change God. The only thing that can move God, is our obedience to His word. He created us all on this earth, to fulfill His eternal will. Get to know the will of God, and do it to save your life. Acknowledging that we had been wrong about our attitudes towards Him, is a good place to begin from (Psalms 51:3; Romans 7:14).

The scientists and conspiracy theorists will often try to explain these global events. But the scriptures says that they will be put more and more into darkness by the Lord. They think they have a grip on the issues, but they are wrong. Their eyes of understanding will become darkened shortly. All of their efforts and researches will eventually fail to yield any productive result. They will acknowledge it, but will rather remain unrepentant.

The scripture says again:

The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16:10-11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Darkness or the lack of understanding of the times, that is coming upon them is from God. These are all events that God had spoken about in the scriptures. There is absolutely nothing new about it all.

In the midst of all these, the King of kings – Jesus will return suddenly. Jesus declared His return in the midst of all these events, personally to John on the Island of Patmos:

““Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.””

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The believers who will be blessed by the day of the Lord, are those who had made themselves ready for Him, by clothing themselves in righteousness.

Are you getting ready for Jesus’ return? Or will you continue living your lifestyle, like the rest of the unsaved world? The choices are always yours, but the consequences of the disobedience are grave and severe.

Jesus said that He will return like a thief. A thief will never tell you that he’s coming to steal from you. In the same manner, no one should be surprised of the consequences that follows the lifestyle that he or she lives. Jesus means what He said here. Start getting ready for Him before you get caught unprepared.

The end of all things is coming. Get ready

After the coming of the Lord, the final shakings before the end of all things will begin.

The scriptures says:

“The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found. From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about a hundred pounds, fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭16:17-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

A loud voice from inside the temple, as Christ will be seated on His throne, will usher in the final event to end it all. Now is the moment to turn around and believe in Jesus. Postponing that decision may become too late. Do not allow procrastination to deprive you of your salvation. If you surely believe that climate change is real, you can also believe these warnings from the Bible about it. Only by opening our hearts to receive salvation, from the consequences of all these in the name of Jesus can we be saved from the judgment of that day. It will be too late to change when the end of all things comes.

Jesus says:

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.””

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:20-22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This is the gospel truth. Jesus is coming back again. This is the Christian hope upon which the Christian faith is anchored on. It is no fairy tale, just as climate change or global warming is not a fairy tale also.

Do you have the hope for Jesus’ return? Get yourself ready. He will return at a time that no one knows. Get involved in the Father’s business, and begin to prepare the way for the Lord’s return.
