God reigns in the darkness

“Then Solomon said, The Lord said that He would dwell in the thick darkness.”
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The Lord God revealed to the wisest King of Israel where he could get the wisdom, that was needed in reigning over His people. The Lord God told him that He dwells in the thick darkness.

There are immeasurable treasures of God’s wisdom in the thick darkness, that are yet to be tapped into by God’s people on the earth today.

The Lord God created light out of the darkness from the beginning of all things (Genesis 1:1-2). Light would not had been without the darkness that it was created to overwhelm.

And in the midst of the very darkness of the universe is the dwelling place of the Lord God Almighty. King Solomon received wisdom from this dwelling place of God.

And up to this very day those who are diligently seeking for God’s wisdom, are tapping into it in the secret place of His dwelling. The secret place of God’s dwelling is the place where His children can get intimate with Him, as they’re praying and worshipping Him in the dark moments of their lives.

Jesus said:

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Lord God treasures our private moments with Him. It’s from His secret place that He can come to our own secret place to give us the wisdom that we need.

Men have always associated darkness with evil. And of course it is evil, but in the midst of the chaos that surrounds the situation which confronts them, they can also discover God’s domineering power over the evil one.

The Lord God will reveal the wisdom that they do need in that secret place, as they’re doing spiritual warfare against the evil one. He will reveal the wisdom that they do need in getting out of the entrapment of the devil.

The dark sayings of King Solomon came from the very place, where the Lord God dwells. And in spite of the age of these sayings of King Solomon as written in the book of Proverbs, his words are still giving wisdom to those who are in search of it.

He said concerning wisdom:

“Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord; But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭8‬:‭34‬-‭36‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The greatest wisdom of God was revealed to us on the crucifixion cross of Christ Jesus. In the cross itself God Almighty used the greatest weapon of Satan against him. This shows the domineering power of our God over the devil and his darkness.

The Lord God went to the secret place of Satan, and stripped him of his biggest weapon against humanity (sin), by allowing him to use it against His Son on the cross of crucifixion.

On the cross our sins were laid upon Jesus. The power of sin (which is death) comes from the devil in his dark (secret) place. From there he lures men into sin through temptation.

His ultimate goal is to perpetuate the use of the pressure of sin in destroying lives. And he has been doing this for a long time, until Jesus finally came to deliver us from his grip. Jesus never committed any sin, but He took upon Himself the sinful nature of men on the cross.

This brought the biggest darkness on the earth as He died on the cross:

“Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭44‬-‭46‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Roman Centurion who had been at His crucifixion having witnessed this darkness, was able to see the wisdom of God in bringing us salvation.

It’s disappointing that the Jewish crowd that had witnessed the same event with the Centurion, were unable to see the wisdom of God that this Centurion received immediately, as Jesus hung on the cross with darkness all around Him. The work of darkness on the cross brought death. But the wisdom of God brought salvation and deliverance from eternal death.

The testimony of that Centurion was described by Luke in this way:

“So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭47‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The wisdom of God that brought us salvation was revealed to the Roman Centurion in the darkness on that day. His first reaction as he got hold of the wisdom of God to save the world was to glorify God. He became a worshipper of God in the moment of the darkness that had surrounded him. He also became the first believer in the righteousness by faith, as he acknowledges the righteousness in Christ Jesus.

And up to this very day God’s wisdom is still there, in the thick darkness for those who are seeking Him.

The foolishness of the death on the cross that the Centurion had witnessed opened the door of salvation into his life. This Centurion later became one of the biggest sponsor of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the end of the earth. He actually built a Synagogue for the Jewish people, even though he was not a Jew.

As the scripture says:

“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It’s in the foolishness of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ that God’s wisdom to save the world is revealed. Those who are seeking Him are finding His wisdom.

The wisest of the wise men from the east came to bow down and worship Jesus at His birth. They had been seeking for wisdom in the darkness, where they had been practicing astrology. All of a sudden the wisdom of God invaded their secret place, in the form of the Star that they had never been seen in the sky before.

They decided to find out where the Star would lead them. In their own minds they were making new discoveries and researching this great Star. But in the foolishness of their action was the wisdom of God revealed to them. They finally discovered that it’s only in Christ Jesus that true wisdom can be found.

They told Herod about what they had discovered:

“saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

They had thought in their own wisdom that the King of the Jews could only be born in the palace. But God’s wisdom was revealed to them in a manger. So they worshipped Him in the manger, and not at the palace. What an unusual place to discover God’s wisdom!

Paul wrote in his letter to the Corinthians:

“For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

And up to this day the foolishness of the preaching the gospel is still making the world wiser than ever before. It is saving souls from the destruction of the devil. It is still healing the sick and delivering those who are in the captivity of the devil.

Yes, the wisdom of God is hidden from all men, but those who are wise are seeking for it in its dark (secret) place.

Even though God dwells in the midst of the darkness, but He is also the Light that exposes the evil works of the devil in the darkness. As the scripture says:

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
‭‭I John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Just because God’s Spirit is in the darkness of this world, does not mean that He is fellowshipping with the darkness. Without Him exposing the works of the devil in the darkness with the Light, we would have never been able to constantly triumph over the evil one.

Thanks be to God that Jesus after His death on the cross went into Satan’s darkest place, to declare the gospel of Light to those who had been held captives by the devil (1 Peter 3:18-22 and Ephesians 4:9).

Many of these captives in darkness actually rose again from the dead, as they heard the good news preached to them (Matthew 27:52-53).

Get wisdom in the foolishness of the dark

God’s immeasurable treasures are in the dark

Wisdom spoke out from the thick darkness:

“I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭8‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The wisdom of God is hidden. It’s hidden in the dark sayings of God inside the holy scriptures. But it’s only those who are diligently seeking Him in the scriptures that are finding His wisdom. How diligent are you in seeking God’s wisdom?

It’s only by faith that the foolishness of seeking for wisdom in the dark can lead us to please God. The foolishness of seeking for the unseen God in the dark demands that, we should be seeking Him by faith:

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Enoch searched for God’s wisdom in a manner that no one in his generation had done before. And he found it in a mysterious way. He did what no one had never done before so as to find God’s wisdom. And when he found it, God had to take him away the earth.

How did he find it? The Psalmist wrote:

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Enoch found wisdom in the secret place of the Most High. The Lord God had to take him away into an everlasting home under His shadow.

The shadow of the Almighty is the place of thick darkness where He dwells. God dwells in the darkness around us.

The thick darkness is actually a depiction of the thick clouds, that covers His holy presence in the Old Testament. That thick darkness is the shadow of His presence.

When God spoke to the children of Israel in an audible voice at Mount Sinai, they trembled as they heard Him speak. His audible voice came out to them from the thick darkness, which covered the top of the mountain.

Moses approached the darkness and actually entered into it, so as to fellowship with God for forty days and forty nights:

“And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.” So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Moses drew near the source of all wisdom in the thick darkness. He wrote the Torah based on the revelation, that he had received from inside the thick darkness, as he went to fellowship with God. God spoke to him face to face in the thick darkness (Exodus 33:11), without anything being hidden from him. Moses went into God’s secret place and came out wiser than ever before.

No one has ever had this type of encounter with God before. And when Aaron and Miriam were disputing that God spoke to Moses alone; the Lord God Almighty had to intervene by Himself, to settle the matter once and for all of Israel to see.

He told Aaron and Miriam about the special relationship between Him and Moses:

“Then He said, “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream. Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. I speak with him face to face, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings; And he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭12‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God never spoke in dark sayings with Moses. Moses knew God’s form, because he had entered into the thick darkness several times to fellowship with God.

There is no secret of God that’s hidden from those who are making daily sacrifices to seek Him. God doesn’t give them visions, but He speaks directly with them.

God’s wisdom was with Moses. No wonder the devil was rebuked as he tried to get at his body:

“Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!””
‭‭Jude‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Anyone who wants to experience an intimate personal encounter with the Lord God, must be prepared to diligently seek Him, without compromising the faith walk with Him at all times.

Are you seeking God in your dark hours?

Get wiser with every opportunity in the dark

From what both Moses and King Solomon had revealed to us about the Lord God’s dwelling in the darkness of the earth, we can conclude that His mysteries are immeasurable treasures. And these treasures can only be searched out by faith.

These treasures are hidden inside the darkness. It is only when a Christian puts on the Light of Christ in the darkness, that these treasures can only be revealed.

And we put on the Light of Christ in us by proclaiming God’s promises in the midst of the darkness.

However, just because the treasures are revealed doesn’t means it is automatically ours. We have to go into the camp of the evil one by faith, so as to possess what the Father has revealed to us as ours by faith.

It’s just as Jesus had to set those who had been held as captives in hell free. If Jesus could possess His possession in the devil’s secret place, you can use His name also to possess what the Lord has shown you in the darkness as yours.

The devil will do everything possible to prevent you from taking what is yours. But you have to take it forcefully from him. Once the Father reveals it to you, it is yours to have as a possession. So use His name and take it by force from the secret place of the devil.

That’s why Moses said again that:

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭29‬:‭29‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The secret things refers to the mysteries of the Lord God, which He has stored up for His children in the camp of the enemy.

We are to be diligently seeking Him so as to find them. God is closer to you than you can ever imagine. He is in the dark places of the earth. He longs for us to be searching for Him.

We grope in the darkness to find Him. And the moment we find Him, He disappears again; yet He is still very close to us.

As the Apostle Paul once said to the men of Athens, the Lord God does this:

“so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The devil likes to operates in the dark. He is mischievous and does his evil works in the dark. He hates to live and operate in the light, because the light will easily expose him.

And everything that he does in the dark are laid out in the presence of our God. There is nothing that the devil does in the dark, that God doesn’t know about.

This is why as the children of Light we should not to be afraid of the darkness of this world, because our God dwells and reigns in it; just as He is also dwelling and reigning in the Light.

There is therefore nothing that the devil is doing in the dark against you, which will ever prevail. As the scripture says:

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭54‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Nothing that the evil one is doing to target your faith will ever be fruitful. Your faith overcomes him always.

And as long as you are using your faith to seek after God, you will always discover new mysteries about His immeasurable wisdom, that will transform you into being who He really wants you to be.

It’s an amazing journey with great spiritual exploits. When darkness comes, it’s therefore important for us to be seeing it as a marvelous opportunity to tap into the wisdom of God.

The Lord God wants to use such an opportunity to bless you in the midst of the trials, troubles or difficulties of your life.

There are immeasurable treasures of God’s wisdom waiting for you when darkness comes. Begin to tap into it whenever it comes, by declaring the truth and light of God that gives life.
