In the heart of every human being on earth today is a desire for the supernatural. It’s only when people don’t see or get it in the Church; that the enemy pushes them away into the world of the occult in search of it. No Christian genuinely wants to be associated with the world of the occult. It is the desperation for the move of God in their lives, that is often being exploited by the devil to push them into it.
It’s however the truth alone that can set people free (John 8:31-32). Genuinely in the heart of every human being on earth today, is the longing for the presence of the God who created them. Men are continually “seeking after God”; even as the enemy keeps on deceiving them with his lies concerning God (Acts 17:27-28).
The scriptures once told us about the desperation in the heart of King Saul, to hear the voice of God; as he was confronted with the war against the Philistines. He needed a word from God so desperately, in order to be able to make a good quality decision before fighting in that war. He needed the guidance of God; but unfortunately for him he had alienated himself away from God, by his previous acts of disobedience (see 1 Samuel 14 and 15).
There was no one else remaining in Israel to help him. King Saul had tried to consult with God through the Urim and Thummim. But God did not answer him at all. He had in his desperate situation also banished, those who practiced sorcery from operating in the country. He thought they were the ones who were preventing him from hearing God. And to make his situation worse – Samuel, who had anointed him as the king over Israel was deceased.
So, acting under the pressure of a war with an encroaching enemy; Saul violated God’s commanded to Israel and his own law also, as it pertained to sorcery in Israel. In the desperation for direction and instruction from God, he decided to act below his position as the King of Israel.
The Bible says:
“Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had lamented for him and buried him in Ramah, in his own city. And Saul had put the mediums and the spiritists out of the land. … And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets. Then Saul said to his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.” So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” Then the woman said to him, “Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the spiritists from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?”
I Samuel 28:3, 6-9 NKJV
Don’t ever forget who you are
There are a lot of People today who do profess to be Christians; but whenever desperation sets in on them, they often end up doing exactly what Saul did in the above scripture texts. They will disguise their identities outside their Churches, in order to consult with astrologers, palm readers, horoscopes and even witches. They will do these things, because of the urgency in their desperation to change their situation. Instead of putting the pressure on God’s word to work for them, they will turn over to the arm of their flesh for help. And this is the point where the enemy begins to aggressively violate their hearts of love for Jesus.
As an example there are a lot of young ladies today, who had been tricked and deceived away from various Churches into prostitution by the devil. Many of them do in fact have financial problems, that the devil has engineered against their faith in God. Instead of standing strong in faith before God for their financial prosperity, they have bought into the lie of the devil; that they do need to sell their bodies into prostitution, so as to resolve such problems. This is not different from the foolishness in King Saul, when he decided to consult with the witch of Endor.
What the enemy is doing against these ladies today, has made the work of several local Pastors very difficult. It’s hard to shepherd a sheep, that’s constantly behaving like a goat. And there are churches everywhere with people in their congregations, who are being deceived by the devil to live a double life.
They exhibit faithfulness to the Church; but they are living another life outside their churches. And they thrive mostly in churches, where they feel comfortable in hiding their double life from their communities. This is a big challenge for the Pastors in those churches.
Just as the serpent tricked Eve in the garden of Eden to sin against God, there are many Christians who are being deceived from the lifestyle of faith daily. The devil will never relent in his effort to weaken the Body of Christ. We do however know that, God is still in the business of doing the supernatural. It’s the devil who specializes in the spectacular, in order to deceive those who are weary and heavily laden.
That’s why Jesus commanded them to come to Him (Matthew 11:28). When we lay all our cares on Jesus, we will never have to worry about them anymore; because Jesus has them. Jesus lightens the burden, so that you may be able to focus on the supernatural in your life.
But these Christians will cast their burdens on Jesus, and immediately they leave God’s presence the enemy uses worrying to penetrate their thoughts. By worrying again about their problems, doubts sets in to destroy their faith in Christ’s ability to carry the burdens for them.
Desperation for success at the time of war, pushed Saul to do the insane thing in Israel. There are people within the Body of Christ today, who will do anything, apart from using their faith in God to resolve their problems in life.
During the time of Jesus miracles, signs and wonders were the magnets, that attracted the crowd to Him. It’s when people do not get what they want from the Church, that they will often turn to the world of the occult in search of it.
The Bible once described the supernatural that followed Jesus like this:
“A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick.”
John 6:2 NLT
The crowd that kept following Jesus was seeking after the supernatural. And this has not changed today also. The various crowds that are going to Churches, are still seeking for the supernatural in their personal lives. That’s what they are looking for. But there are Churches that has substituted the supernatural in their midst for entertainment. In many instances their members are the ones who are living the double life.
The enemy is very creepy with his deceptions
But wherever the Body of Christ had disappointed people; the devil will always creep in with his deceptions waiting. He will do this so as to hold captive, those who are weary of waiting on the Lord for their miracles.
The scriptures told us about an occultist – called Elymas of Cyprus; who had been using sorcery to deceive the people for a very long time. This was before Saul (later Paul) and Barnabas got to the Island, with the power of the supernatural to save, heal and deliver.
The scriptures says:
“But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.”
Acts 13:8-12 NIV
Elymas was living a double life in plain sight, even as Paul and Barnabas were both performing miracles, signs and wonders on the Island. He thought he could hide his double life away from them. But the Holy Spirit exposed the intention of his heart to Paul.
The aim of the devil is to always turn people away from faith in God, because he knows that as soon as the word of God gains access into any heart – faith comes into that heart. The presence of faith in the heart of a Christian, opens up that believer to the world of the supernatural.
We can see here that Paul never wasted time in confronting the evil spirit in Elymas. He immediately judged the spirit, that had been preventing the supernatural move of God on the Island. The man was being used of the devil to practice sorcery, in holding back the harvest of souls on the Island of Cyprus. But as Saul (Paul) confronted him, the power of darkness was dealt with. And the result was a great harvest of souls into God’s Kingdom. The people that got saved, healed and delivered had been waiting for a long time to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
Be prepared for the move of God
If people can see the supernatural move of God in any Church congregation, they will definitely desire to become part of that congregation. They will never want to leave the Church.
The inclination for the supernatural which is evident in all men, is from the very nature of God which He has put inside all of us at creation. Every human being on the earth desires does desire the supernatural. It is that desire in all creations, which makes us to be seeking after God always.
And if every congregation of believers on earth today, are truly experiencing the supernatural; the world would have been saved for Jesus. But the devil doesn’t want this to happen. He is always doing something to hinder and to stop miracles, signs and wonders from taking place, whenever and wherever Christians are gathered together.
However people do love to be touched, and to experience the unseen God; who created all things. The presence of sin has always separated men from that encounter, until Christ later came to reconcile all men back to God. When Christ reconciled us back to God, the door into the world of the supernatural was opened to us (Ephesians 3:20). The supernatural is now available to everyone, who will dare to believe God for it.
That’s why today as part of the Body of Christ, we all do have no other option; but to be on display for the world to see the works of the supernatural through our lives. You were born again for miracles, signs and wonders. You don’t have to be waiting for the supernatural move of God anymore. You have the supernatural in you. As a child of God, you were created to do the supernatural everywhere you go (Mark 16:15-18).
The supernatural is the sign of a real apostle
The Bible says about the first apostles of Jesus Christ, after His ascension back to the Father that:
“The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.”
Acts 5:12-16 NIV
These were the signs that distinguished the Apostles of Jesus Christ – the world of the supernatural. But the body of Christ today is full of so many Apostles, who don’t even have anything to show as the mark of their apostleship.
You are not an Apostle because you started something in God’s Kingdom. You are one because the supernatural follows you everywhere you go, and in everything that you are doing for the Kingdom of God. And to crown it all, you also do have scars in your life, to show as the marks of your apostleship.
As Paul told the Corinthians:
“Indeed, the signs that indicate a [genuine] apostle were performed among you fully and most patiently in miracles and wonders and mighty works.”
2 Corinthians 12:12 AMPC
A “genuine” apostle of Jesus always wants his works of the supernatural, to speak about his scars of apostleship. That was what followed Paul everywhere he went.
The New Living Translation puts Paul’s words in this way:
“You have made me act like a fool. You ought to be writing commendations for me, for I am not at all inferior to these “super apostles,” even though I am nothing at all. When I was with you, I certainly gave you proof that I am an apostle. For I patiently did many signs and wonders and miracles among you.”
2 Corinthians 12:11-12 NLT
Paul never wanted to be blowing his own trumpet. He wanted the Corinthians to testify about the seal of his apostleship among them to their communities. The miracles, signs and wonders that were performed among them should be testifying for him.
Paul later went on to tell them about the scars in his life, that he proudly carried with him everywhere he went, as he testified about the supernatural in his life (see 2 Corinthians 11:16-33).
You need to be stirring up the gifts of the supernatural in your life
A real apostle will always speak about the power of God to do the supernatural. He performs miracles, signs and wonders by testifying about what his faith had done for him before. He continues to do the supernatural by speaking about those things, just as God spoke things into creation. And God is still in the business of creating new things by speaking them into creation.
Paul told the Galatians:
“Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?”
Galatians 3:3-5 NIV
Today God does the supernatural by the Holy Spirit. But the link to it is in the miracles, signs and wonders which are on display through our testimonies. This was exactly how the early apostles did so much. They were always testifying about what, they had seen Jesus done before in their midst.
The scriptures told us that, this was what Peter did at the house of Cornelius. All of a sudden as he was testifying about the miracles of Jesus, the supernatural manifested – the Holy Spirit came upon all his listeners. They started speaking in tongues without anyone laying hands on them.
Peter said on that day:
“You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.”
Acts 10:37-40 NIV
As he was testifying about the miracles, signs and wonders of Jesus; suddenly the miraculous took place:
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? ”
Acts 10:44-47 NKJV
The supernatural move of God here explained Peter’s vision at Joppa, without any doubt to him. God is still doing the same things today.
There was a young man in Israel (Gideon), who had heard about how God performed the supernatural in saving the nation. Gideon was longing for the supernatural in his heart, when the angel of God directed him to go and perform the supernatural in saving his people from their enemies.
The Bible says:
“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
Judges 6:13-14 NIV
Age or experience has nothing to do with your ability to do the supernatural. Gideon was a teenager when God directed him to deliver his nation. There were many who had the experience of war; but God did not pick anyone of them. He went to a young man who was free at heart, while longing to see the supernatural in changing his nation.
How thirsty and free at heart are you for the move of God in your community? God is calling you out today to change the status quo in your world. The supernatural is in your heart and on your lips. Start speaking about those miracles, signs and wonders which you had read about in the scriptures, to bring the sinners to Jesus everywhere you go.
People will start getting healed and delivered because you believe in them. You were born into God’s Kingdom for this very purpose. You were born again to do the supernatural and set the world around you free. They will be free at last, as you obey the command of Jesus for you to go.
