Every Covenant has a name, but the Name of Jesus is higher than them all.

The giving or the exchange of names is one of the most powerful aspect of any Covenant making process. It is what validates the Covenant itself. It makes it authentic and genuine.

This is the most significant difference between an agreement and a Covenant. An agreement does not need to involve the exchange or the giving of names. But a Covenant does need it. It is what enforces the Covenant itself, making it a reality by causing it to prosper.

And oftentimes the given name highlights the vision of all the parties, involved in the Covenant making process. It is the means whereby the purpose of the Covenant is being propagated. The giving of names in this way is prophetic by itself. It prophesies to the destiny of the Covenant.

Abram was the first man on the earth to enter into a Covenant with God. And his name had to be changed from Abram to Abraham. God told him:

“No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The name given to the man (Abraham) connected him eternally with God in this Covenant relationship. The Hebrew alphabet that’s placed in the middle of the name – Abram, changed everything for the man.

We need to note here also that the alphabet “ה׳” or (Hei), is used in the Hebrew language as a form of abbreviation for the Name of God. So as to avoid calling the Name of God – “Has-hem”, the use of this alphabet in conversations, is widely recognized among the Jews as a reference to God.

When God again had to renew the Abrahamic Covenant with Jacob, we noticed that He did the same thing by giving him a new name. The Bible says:

“And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭35:10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The renewal of the Covenant with Jacob at Bethel began a new phase in the history of Israel as a nation. God Almighty finally put His seal of approval on His own people.

Today’s Covenants are known by names..

The name you call your child all the time is your prophecy into the destiny in life of that child

From the garden of Eden we can observe that the first marriage Covenant between Adam and Eve saw the giving of name. Adam in this case was the one who called the helper, that God created for him – woman. The Bible says:

“And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:23-24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The man and the woman then entered into a marital Covenant relationship with one another. Adam and Eve became one flesh. Their marriage Covenant sets the basis for every marriage on the earth between a man and a woman. Their children (Cain and Abel) also became one with them, by receiving names from them. And this has been the order for the family unit on earth till today.

Children receive names at birth from their parents. This is why it’s very important for us as Christians to always seek, the face of God in prayer before naming a child. The name that is given to a child at birth, sticks with the child for the rest of his life. And names do have meanings. Whatever you call your child is your prophecy into the destiny in life for that child. He will eventually become whatever name you are calling him from birth into his adulthood.

Some had unknowingly put curses on their children, because they never prayerfully considered the names that were given to them at birth. The Bible tells us about a man in this type of situation, who got a name from his parents based on the troubles of their lives. It says:

“Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.”

‭‭I Chronicles‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jabez had to break the curse that his given birth name had brought on him, by invoking the Covenant benefit which he had with God. His parents had given him a name that identified him as a pain to them. But as soon as Jabez recognized who he was in his relationship with God, he decided to override the curse from his parents, by crying out to God about it.

God honored his request and the curse was broken. The blessing of the Lord started to flow into his life. No matter what type of ungodly Covenant your parents or ancestors might had entered into, which has brought so much problems to your life. You can turn it around as a child of God, just as Jabez turned around the curse into the blessing over his life.

As the Lord told Moses:

“ .. The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭34:6-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God is merciful! Your right standing before God can turn around any generational curse into the blessing for your life. If you do know that you’d been given a name from birth, that has no witness to its meaning in your life, you can turn it around for your own good.

And if you’re being called names by the world, that bears no witness to the image of Christ in your life; you can annul it in the name of Jesus and turn it into the blessing of your life. Don’t settle for anything that the world is calling you. You are a child of God. Cast an image of who you’d been created in Christ Jesus within your heart. Live in the reality of that image every day of your life, proclaiming who God calls you over your life every day.

What God calls you is who you are. Get into the Bible to find out who you really are, as a child of God. The giving of names is a very important aspect of any Covenant. It must never be taken for granted. And this includes your Covenant with God, the Father.

When I became a born again child of God, I personally took a name which identified my new identity in Christ Jesus. I took the name – Abraham for myself. I saw myself in the Abraham of the Bible in accordance with Galatians 3:13-14. This is the name that I have now chosen to be identified with for all eternity.

It doesn’t belittle the name that my parents gave to me from birth, which means “the Lord is always standing by my side”. But as I entered into a Covenant with God by receiving Christ Jesus as my Lord and Savior, my name had to change to identify me with Him in the reality of the new relationship.

As Jesus said it:

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Being born of the Spirit of God has become the most powerful moment in my life on the earth. And by changing my name I signaled to the hosts of the heaven, that my relationship with God is now much more important than any other relationship on the earth. This was what I did by taking an oath before God in the Church, where I received Jesus into my life as Lord and Savior, in the presence of all the believers in Christ Jesus.

That’s Covenant. And that’s what had been keeping me strong in my relationship with God. I chose to identify with God above any other person on the earth. And as I did this I personally adopted Jesus as my Big Brother. Who are you identified with?

The Name of Jesus gave you access into the blessing

The Name of Jesus overrides every Covenants of the believers in His Name

Before Christ was born His Name was revealed to Joseph with the meaning from God. The angel told him:

“And she (Mary) will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The meaning of the Name – Jesus identified Him with His mission from above to the world. He came to save us from our sins. Salvation came to us in the Name of Jesus. Healing is available to us in the Name of Jesus. Deliverance is available to us in the Name of Jesus. The blessing of Abraham is available to us in the Name of Jesus.

This is why the Bible says:

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:9-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The Name of Jesus is the most powerful Name in the heavens and on the earth. The devil trembles at the mention of His Name, by those who had entered into a Covenant with God in this Name.

Jesus declared before the Father while still on the earth to validate your Covenant with God:

“And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

‭‭John‬ ‭17:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This is a huge thing for Jesus to had done this while still on the earth. He was literally giving us access into the presence of God the Father by doing this. He gave you access into every blessing of Abraham by making this declaration before God on the earth.

This means that you don’t need to get to Heaven to gain access into the blessing. You can take all of it here on the earth, because all of the blessing of Abraham are in your life.

The Bible says:

“Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:11-13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

You were once not qualified for access into the Covenant of the promise to Abraham. Jesus granted you the access by revealing the Father to you while on the earth. And everyone on the earth who was  a non-Jewish believer can now get access into the blessing of Abraham in the Name of Jesus.

You can now go boldly to God in the Name that, Jesus had declared to you in the scriptures. You have an open access into the presence of God. Jesus did it and He sealed the Covenant with His own Blood on the cross, for you to have this access.

If the Name is Holy, the Covenant is Holy also

God’s Name is Holy! Keep it Holy!

Our Covenant with God, the Father is therefore Holy, just as His Name is Holy. When we live a consecrated and sanctified life to the Lord, we are walking in the reality of His Covenant with us. And it takes faith to be able to do this. Holiness has nothing to do with the observance of church rules and laws. It is only possible as a Christian lives a consecrated life by faith before the Lord.

That’s why Jesus taught us to pray, when we approach God the Father in this way. He said:

“Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The attitude of heart as we approach the presence of God in this way, opens the floodgate of His grace into our lives. The Name of the Lord is Holy. And we’re not supposed to even be mentioning His Name anyhow. We must hallow His Name. He is Holy and His Name must be treated always in like manner.

As the Bible says:

“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Be very careful how you are making reference to the Name of the Father. Be careful not to be associating His Name with something that the Bible disagrees with. Many had put the terror of God on their own lives by doing such things.

The angels of God are all around you, listening to every word that you are saying. If you are associating God’s Name with anything that the Bible disagrees with, you are invoking their anger on your life.

This is what God said about them:

“Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him. But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭23:20-22‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

There is a reason why an Angel has to have the Name of God in Him. It’s meant to enforce the Covenant upon the lives of those who believe in the Name. The Angel will not forgive any misuse of the Name. He is the enforcer of the Covenant on the earth. Be very careful not to use the Name of God in vain.

We have access to the Name of Jesus in prayer, because it’s His Name that is used to enforce our Covenant with the Father. The Name of the Father is meant to be referenced, worshipped and adored always.

It’s very rare to find a Jew mention the Name of God, the Father. They will often refer to Him as “the Blessed One”; but will never mention His Name in conversations with one another.

God’s Name is Holy. That’s why Jesus told us to be careful with the use of His Name in prayer. He told us to hallow the Name of the Father always. This means to honor the Name of God as being Holy.

The Name of Jesus enforces your Covenant with God, the Father. Faith in the Name makes your Covenant with God valid. And you can always approach the Father in the Name of Jesus, for the enforcement of any benefit that belongs to you in the Covenant.

Your healing, good health, debt cancellation, deliverance and prosperity are in the Name. It’s the Name that’s above every other names. Use it to enforce your Covenant with the Father here on the earth. It’s your birth right as a child of the living God. This is how you reign on the earth – by enforcing your Covenant benefits.

My name means ‘one who’ve seen sorrow’, need I say, I’ve seen many sorrows in my life and I even asked my grandmother to change my name since she named me but was informed that I brought sorrow to my mother because she struggled alot when she was carrying me. I decided that I would change my name but was told that curses would follow me because I was going against my elders but after reading your lessons, I thank God that I stumbled upon your site. I feel liberated and answered because I believe that God’s plans for my life is that I would see His goodness and find his favour thus, that’s all I’m sticking with and I am not looking back. May you be blessed for the good work that you do. I have been educated indeed, thank you ?.
