The Apostle Paul said concerning the gifts of the Holy Spirit for the healing of the human body that:
“To another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,”
I Corinthians 12:9 NKJV
The Holy Spirit gives out gifts as He deems fit to each member of the body of Christ, to use individually in ministering healing to the sick.
The “gifts of healings” is meant to be used for the destruction of the works of the devil. It is the only gift(s) of the Holy Spirit that’s meant for the healing of a sick or diseased body.
Jesus Christ became the Word of God manifested in the flesh (John 1:14), so that the gifts of healings can be made available to us in His name.
He is the baptizer in the Holy Spirit. He baptizes us in the Holy Spirit and power, so that we can be able to gain access to His gifts.
All the gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to every believer in His Name. Jesus was manifested for that very purpose, so that through the use of His name we may annihilate the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).
All the gifts of the Holy Spirit are yours. The scriptures say:
“But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore, He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.”
Ephesians 4:7-8 NKJV
Christ is the Giver of all spiritual gifts. He gives us His gifts in accordance with the measure of His grace in our lives.
Jesus gives us spiritual gifts in accordance with our ability to be good stewards of each gift.
But the “gifts of healings” is more needed today in the body of Christ.
Jesus said it clearer and louder enough for us to understand, that we had already been made victorious in His name. And by exercising our faith in His victory, sicknesses and diseases will bow in His name. He said:
“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Mark 16:17-18 NKJV
These are the signs that can be used always in identifying the true followers of Jesus Christ. These were the very words of Jesus Himself. These were not the words of a Preacher. They are the very words of Jesus as written in the Bible.
And if these signs are not following your testimony concerning Jesus, then you are not a believer in Christ Jesus. I did not say so. Jesus Himself said so in those same words: “And these signs will follow those who believe”.
If you’re not a follower of Jesus Christ, then you are probably a follower of the world’s religious traditions.
And there is something wrong with the world and their understanding about Jesus. They love to put the teachings of Christ about healing within the context of their religious traditional belief system.
And several instances they don’t have a sound understanding of the will of God concerning the healing of the body.
If anything, that Jesus says in the scriptures does not fit into the teachings of their Church’s denominations or religious groups, the world will reject it.
It has in fact gotten to a stage when an atheist can teach them anything about healing, and they will choose to believe the words of the atheist from their Seminaries, more than the words of Jesus as written in the scriptures.
A man may have a PhD in Divinity, but still teach the Bible as a history or theological book. And he really may not believe in what he is teaching. Most Universities has become full of Professors these days, who do not even believe in what they are professing.
We are however living in a world where people are dying daily of sicknesses and diseases. They don’t need the teachings and doctrines of these unbelievers about healing. They need Jesus, the Healer to heal them.
But Jesus can’t heal them without His followers going out by faith, to do as He said in the above scripture texts.
God is looking for the ordinary believers in the name of Jesus, who will step out of their comfort zones and begin to do, what He had commanded them to do in accordance with Mark 16:15-18.
That’s why the “gifts of healings” is needed now in the life of every follower of Jesus Christ. You are the one who had been sent by Jesus Christ to heal a sick world. Jesus is more interested in using you for His glory than anyone else.
And the “gifts of healings” is what will make the believers in Christ Jesus, to stand out in the crowd of naysayers and doubters.
The naysayers and doubters will tell you that healing does not and cannot come by putting your faith in God’s word. They have become too comfortable with the system of the world, to the extent that they have now become frozen with their unbelief.
God’s word has been rendered without power to heal the sick through them, because of their lack of faith in it to perform. They do believe in medical science more than, they do believe in God’s word to heal the sick.
Everywhere you see a true believer in Christ Jesus, God’s power is available to heal the sick and to deliver the captives.
You don’t need a special calling to pray for the sick. The gifts will flow through your life for as long as you are ready, to go out and start doing what Jesus said in the scripture texts above.
So, stop looking for someone to pray for you. Stir up the gifts in your life, by laying hands on yourself to be healed first.
Put your faith in God’s word to work for you. And as soon as you get healed, step out by faith and start doing the same thing for others around you to get healed. That’s how you activate your faith to begin to work, as Jesus said it will in Mark 16:15-18.
The problem with the Body of Christ today is that many have bought into the lies and deceptions of the devil, that they can’t lay hands on the sick and see them recover.
The devil is using his lies to make them think that they will be making a fool of themselves, if they will start doing what Jesus said they should be doing.
That’s for example the mentality of one woman with a child who was sick.
She had sought the help of a medical doctor initially, before even taking into consideration the words of Jesus, that every believer in His name can pray for the sick to be healed.
And as soon as she realized this, she decided to lay her hands on her child for healing in the name of Jesus.
A miracle that had been waiting to happen took place before her eyes, while waiting for endless hours to see the doctor.
The symptoms disappeared from her baby’s body. The baby had been healed by the laying on of her own hands, in the name of Jesus for healing.
She became so full of joy to the extent that others who had seen her prayed for her child, began to ask her to pray for them also.
She ended up recognizing the gift in her life for healing, as testimonies of healings began to flow.
Do you know that you can pray for your family members, and see miracles taking place daily under your own roof, as healings will begin to flow through your hands?
If the individual members of the Body of Christ are not stirring up the gifts within them, then the gifts will manifest nothing to heal the sick and set the captives free.
That’s why people are dying daily from sicknesses and diseases, because the Body of Christ is not standing up boldly to stop it.
Let the gifts flow through you.
All of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are meant for miracles, signs and wonders. And every manifestation of healing miracles comes through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as they work in synchrony with one another.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are more effective in their workings when they complement one another.
Just as your legs, your eyes and your hands can work together in synchrony with your brain; each gift of the Holy Spirit works together with other gifts also, in revealing spiritual truth for healing.
For example, the gifts of the word of knowledge and the word of wisdom were common in working together, to heal the sick during the ministry of Jesus on the earth (Mark 7:31-37).
And we will often see the gifts of faith and prophecy working together also with the “gifts of healings”, especially as the word of God is being preached and taught by Jesus (see Matthew 8:1-3).
There is nothing that can stop the flow of spiritual gifts, whenever faith in them is being exercised. And faith comes by hearing God’s word as it is being preached.
This is why it’s hard to understand why people who are expecting God to heal them, don’t want to first hear the message about healing.
Faith has to be in the heart of the believer for healing, through the message about healing. Not only that. Faith has to arise in the heart of the receiver of healing, for it to manifest physically in the body.
Anyone who doesn’t have faith for healing, should not be expecting God’s word to heal him. It’s important to be a careful listener of the word of God first of all, because you don’t ever know when your own breakthrough will come.
And if the word is not quickening your body to be healed, you are not ready yet to be healed (see Romans 8:11).
God’s word will quicken your physical body by the Spirit who lives in you, to start doing what you could not do before.
So, keep on listening to that message about healing, until you will come to know for sure, that your spirit man has been engulfed with it.
Remember that Jesus often said things like:
“And in that day, you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.”
John 16:23 NKJV
Why was He using phrases like “most assuredly, I say to you” or “verily, I say to you”? He was not using these phrases for fun or to make Himself sound religiously correct.
No, He was driving home a point that is very important for us as His followers. He was making statements like these, so that we don’t get ourselves entrapped by the devil through traditional religious teachings.
A careful student of the scriptures will be paying special attention, to the things that were said by Jesus with those phrases.
The effectiveness of your faith in seeing miracles, signs and wonders happen as you are releasing it, is greatly connected to the way, that you are paying particular attention to those sayings of Jesus in the Scriptures.
Jesus is telling us with the emphasis on those phrases, that we should become careful listeners to the voice of the Holy Spirit, as we are reading and studying the word of God.
And to be precise all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit come through His baptism (1 Corinthians 12:13).
Every endowment of the Holy Spirit to our lives are manifested, as we yield ourselves to Him through His gifts working in us.
The Holy Spirit manifests Himself to us through the workings of the spiritual gifts in our lives – both individually and collectively.
And these gifts work together in unison with one another, so as to complement one another in carrying out and establishing the eternal purposes of God.
Why is it called the “gifts of healings”?
It’s important to note here that only the “gifts of healings” is listed in the plural form, out of all the other gifts of the Holy Spirit that Paul mentioned to us.
Some other Bible translations do call it the “gift of healing”. But the original Greek translation suggests to us that Paul actually meant – “the gifts of healings”.
This means that every child of God is gifted and called of God to heal the sick (Mark 16:16-18), in accordance with the individual gifts that has been given to us by the Holy Spirit.
Some Christians do have the special gift to heal certain diseases. Others may be able to manifest the “gifts of healings” to heal multiple of diseases.
But it’s the same Holy Spirit who gives the gifts as He deems fit, for each believer in Christ Jesus.
This basically means that every child of God who is filled in the Holy Spirit, has the primary responsibility to stir up the gifts in their lives, so as to be able to utilize them for their own maximum benefits.
You can only grow up as you flow into recognizing your spiritual gifts by faith and by exercising them.
If you had been given a gift and you are not using it for your own benefit, then you will have yourself to blame for it, because:
“A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.”
Proverbs 18:16 NKJV
It’s important for us to note here that Paul went ahead, to reiterate his point about the operation of ‘the gifts of healings” by explaining that:
“And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracle, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?”
I Corinthians 12:28-30 NKJV
He here was putting the operation of the “gifts of healings” in the same office, as that of the fivefold ministries, helps and other ministerial functions within the Body of Christ.
And if Jesus said that every believer in His name will heal the sick, the Apostle Paul is clearly pointing out here that you are an important part of the Body of Christ.
You are as important as all the other members of Christ’s Body, as long as you are yielding yourself to flow with the gifts in your life to bless the Body.
In other words, without “the gifts of healings” in operation through you within the local Church, then that Church will be practically dead.
Your local Church needs you more than ever before. You are a significant part of that Body in particular, as you continue to commit yourself to the healing of the sick.
The Apostle Paul went ahead to ask these amazing questions:
“Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret (tongues)?”
Of course, it is not every believer in Christ Jesus who does all of these.
But every believer in the Body of Christ do have a duty to discover or find out the gifts in their individual lives.
You can’t call yourself the member of a Church, if you’re not using your spiritual gifts to be a blessing to that local Church, that you are a part of (see Ephesians 4:7-16).
You are part of the Body of Christ. You do have a significant role to play within Christ’s Body. You have a duty to find out your role and begin to play it. Don’t just be sitting on the pews doing nothing.
You will notice that these three questions about the gifts in the life of a believer in Christ, points directly to how the “gifts of healings” can be activated.
The ability of each believer in Jesus to stir up their individual gifts by speaking in unknown tongues, will produce an understanding of the mind of the Spirit in your life for the interpretation of tongues.
And when you begin to understand the mind of the Spirit, and you begin to do those things that the Spirit of God is revealing to you. That’s how healing will manifest as you are doing those things.
Jesus said that you can lay your hands on the sick and see them recover. That’s a significant role to play within your local Church. Why not begin to do it today?
Go and look for your neighbors who do need healing and start praying for them. Share your personal testimonies of healing, as you go while encouraging them to have faith for healing.
The spiritual gifts are important for the body of Christ, just as you are important also. Use each gift to excel in your calling – giving glory to Jesus.
Each gift can only manifest to the extent by which your faith is being applied towards it. You can’t manifest what you do not have faith for.
Just as you can’t stir up a gift, if the seed of faith for it has not been planted in your heart, by the Holy Spirit through the word of God.
A medical doctor (as an example) who is filled by the Spirit, but who does not pray regularly in the spirit, is not stirring up the spiritual gifts in his life.
The “gifts of healings” is there to be used in making godly and wise diagnoses for treating his patients. But it’s not being tapped into.
Some are aware of the gifts in their lives, but they are just being complacent about using them.
We will all have to give an account before God one day, about what we are doing with the gifts that Jesus had given to us (see Matthew 25:14-30).
And no matter how you may be looking at it, the gifts of the Holy Spirit in your life are without repentance (see Romans 11:29).
This means that God will never take the gifts of the Holy Spirit away from you, just because you are not using them. He is waiting on you to wake up to the reality and awareness of His gifts in your life, so as to use them in changing your world.
The gifts in the life of Doctor Luke.
God is the Creator of the human body. He alone knows best how to fix any problem with the body, which had been created out of self-negligence or the afflictions of the devil.
A lot of misdiagnoses often take place by certain omissions of the medical doctors, because of their over reliance on the sciences of the physical body. Whereas most of the underlying issues in relation to certain sicknesses and diseases are primarily spiritual.
In most cases whenever the underlying spiritual issues are being addressed, the symptoms of the sicknesses and diseases disappears. People are healed when medical doctors take a spiritual approach, in tackling the spiritual problems in their patients.
It will take a medical doctor who is gifted by the Holy Spirit, to be able to discern the types of sicknesses and diseases which do have spiritual underlying problems. The truth is that most of them do.
There is no need to be looking for fire where there is no smoke. A good Christian doctor will address the spiritual concern first, before looking at what medical science says about the symptoms.
God uses medical practitioners to heal the sick, even though some of their approaches may be different, from that of the Preachers of the word of God.
The problem with many Christians in the medical profession today is that they are not spending enough time, to be praying in the spirit for their patients.
Instead, they have developed the tendency of relying more upon their knowledge and intelligence in medical science.
Whereas by stirring up the spiritual gifts within them they can be able to discern, the most effective spiritual approach to confront the sicknesses in their patients.
The gifts of healings as mentioned above by the Apostle Paul is so vast, huge, diverse and unlimited.
Paul must had been able to discern some of these “gifts of healings” in his own personal physician (Doctor Luke), who traveled with him during all of his missionary trips, even to the end of his life.
Most of the wisdom in Paul’s writings about how we are to take care of the body, must had come out of his personal observations from the medical advice, that he had received from Doctor Luke himself (see 2 Timothy 4:11; 1 Timothy 5:23; Acts 28:30-31).
The compilation of the accounts of the gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles were from this medical doctor (Luke), who wrote them. And his writings were inspired by the Holy Spirit’s working through him from a practicing Physician’s point of view.
Definitely Luke was not just an observer who was traveling with Paul. He must had been an active participant with Paul in laying hands on the sick also.
He had not only seen many miracles. He must had performed some of them also. And he must had verified all the miracles that were performed through the healing Ministry of Paul.
He had compiled his notes from various sources in witnessing to Theophilus, a top Roman official at Rome. And his testimonies about Jesus and the miracle works of the early disciples, are what we call today the gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles.
The gifts work with spoken words.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are so vast. The more we see the devil evolving with new afflictions of sicknesses and diseases, the vaster in scope we are getting of the solutions, which the “gifts of healings” can give to us in stopping them.
Praying in the spirit helps us to be able to tap into each gift of the Holy Spirit, and each solution to every ailment in the physical body.
All the gifts of the Holy Spirit are wrapped up in the ability of the believer to be praying in other tongues. You can’t give birth to something that you are not sowing the seeds into through prayer.
You are able to know what the Lord wants to do in healing the sick, as you are praying in this manner. You are also able to know what the devil is doing, as you pray more and more in other tongues.
People are different and God has a plan for healing each one of them differently. Get to know the perfect will of God in all situations. So that you don’t end up chasing a wild goose.
The interesting thing is that God has created each human being uniquely. We are all different from one another.
That’s why it takes only God who has created us uniquely, to be able to address our individual physical needs for the body.
Jesus said:
“The Holy Spirit is the one who gives life, that which is of the natural realm is of no help. The words I speak to you are Spirit and life. But there are still some of you who won’t believe.”
John 6:63 TPT
And the Apostle Paul affirmed this when he wrote to the Romans that:
“And if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, [then] He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also restore to life your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies through His Spirit Who dwells in you.”

Healing and life are impacted by the Holy Spirit through the manifestation of the “gifts of healings”. The Holy Spirit knows how best to make the words of Jesus, to come alive in your mortal body for physical healing and the impartation of life.
God’s word will heal you. His word will heal the sick that you are going to lay your hands upon to be healed.
The “gifts of healings” in your life is waiting for you to stir it up. What are you waiting for? The world needs you now more than ever before.
So, step into your supernatural world today.
You can begin by laying hands on yourself and your loved ones for healing. The gifts will manifest whenever your faith is activated.
