There are a lot of people today and this includes some Christians as well, who do like to make promises as they enter into covenant agreements with others; but who are not faithful in following through with their oath to the covenants. What they are doing to themselves is spiritually dangerous.

The breaking of their oaths can adversely affect the lives of others, who are directly or indirectly connected with them. Oftentimes these oath violators will walk around wondering, why they keep on having problems in their lives, which they cannot evidently resolve no matter how hard they try.

Oaths that are taken in order to get into a covenant relationship, are always in the form of spoken words. Each party to the covenant says such words in the oath to one another, with a third person present as the witness to it.

The words of the oath are very important, because there are spiritual forces, that had witnessed what they said under oath to one another as well. A person becomes bond in covenant relationship, because of the words that were said. What was said during the exchange of vows or oath, is what places value on their covenant together. It does not matter what other people may say about them. Their words are forever their bond together. Those words in the oath or vow serves, as their consent to the agreement under the covenant.

This was exactly what every believer in Christ did, at the moment when we invited Jesus into our lives as the Lord and Savior. Words were spoken before God and many witnesses (Hosea 14:2 and Hebrews 12:1). You entered into a Covenant with God, in the presence of His representatives on the earth, by saying those words under oath, to follow Him for the rest of your life.

The words in that oath binds you to Christ eternally. It is an oath which must not be broken at all. You have no excuse for breaking your oath before God. The person who stood as God’s representative when you vowed to follow Jesus, will either testify for or against you as a witness in Heaven.

Unfortunately in our world today many have taken their oath for granted. Then they wonder why hell is let loosed on them, despite the fact that they are still doing their best to walk with Jesus. Christianity is not about trying or Church attendance. It’s about being a real time doer, of what God’s word says in your Everlasting Covenant with Him.

It’s possible to be committed to a Church or a denomination, but still not committed to living by the oath that you took in the presence of many witnesses. And there are many people today who will say that they may not be perfect, but they had been faithful in living by their oath to live for Jesus.

Their problem is not that they are not living faithfully for the Lord. The problem is that when they failed to live by that oath, did they actually returned back to the Covenant Table, to settle their backslidden status with Christ? There are many people who have failed to do this. They are living in violation of their oath, but they will use Church attendance and participation in Christian activities, to cover up for their failures.

It will cost you a lot to violate your oath

Any violation of the promises that were made before a witness to any covenant, will definitely invite the wrath of the evil forces, that had also witnessed what was said on that occasion. The devil has marked out those who are not living in accordance, to the oath that they took before earthly and heavenly witnesses.

This does not only have to do with the oath to live for God alone. The marital oath is as important as the Christian oath also. And this same spiritual law applies to every one of your business dealings as well. There are in fact many businesses that has folded up, because of the violation of the oaths that were taken with other business partners.

Whenever covenant oaths are broken, it will attract the attention of the demonic forces that witnessed the oath being taken. The violator of the oath becomes a target for them. The violation of such oath is an invitation for the curses, that are under the covenant agreement to follow the violator.

It is an automatic occurrence for the curse, to follow every violation of any covenant oath. This is a spiritual law. Don’t expect the blessing to follow you, after breaking a covenant. The violation is an automatic invitation for the curse to pursue the violator.

Any violation of the oath brings the curses under the covenant to come upon the person simultaneously. The only thing that will prevent it, is for the violator to get back to the covenant table, in order to resolve the issue at stake. There are certain people who are living in poverty and with prolonged sicknesses today, because they had violated their marital oaths with others.

Words that were spoken under oath (as an example) before God brought us salvation, healing, deliverance and prosperity. These are some of the blessings of entering into Covenant with God. Those very words can also attract the attention of the demonic forces, if the oath ever gets violated.

God can’t do anything whenever people are suffering, for the consequences of their actions in breaking their sworn oaths with Him. Why? The reason being that this is a spiritual law that cannot be changed. God came down to your level already by sending His Son to help you out. He will be violating His own spiritual law, if He does this. It will give your enemy (the devil) a leverage to come after you.

You alone do have the sole and personal responsibility, of protecting and defending your Covenant oath with God. In the same manner God has the responsibility of fulfilling His promises to you under the oath. He has the responsibility to defend and protect the enforcement of those promises in your life.

The only thing that can prevent the repercussions of the curse, for violating the oath is a true and genuine act of repentance at the Covenant Table. This must be followed by taking the Holy Communion. Such an action must be initiated by the violator of the oath on his or her own volition.

The Prophet Isaiah said:

“The earth suffers for the sins of its people, for they have twisted God’s instructions, violated his laws, and broken his everlasting covenant. Therefore, a curse consumes the earth. Its people must pay the price for their sin. They are destroyed by fire, and only a few are left alive.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭24:5-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

For every child of God who is witnessing what is going on in the world today, the oath that you took to live before God with a good and clear conscience, is under heavenly microscope right now. There are many who are experiencing the repercussions, for the violations of their oath before God right now. But the door is still open for them to resolve things with Him before it’s too late.

The Blood of Jesus is still pleading for mercy. His mercy is available to those who will receive it by faith. To receive mercy you must believe with the heart that it’s yours, the very moment you speak words before the Lord asking for it.

Don’t shipwreck your faith

Paul once gave this advice to Timothy, his spiritual son:

“Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1:18-19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Paul was warning Timothy about the danger of not living up to the standard, that God expected of him based on the words, which were spoken into his life. Timothy had taken an oath before God to conduct his life, in accordance with those words with a clear and good conscience. But Timothy had a personal responsibility to fight the battle well, against the enemy of his oath.

The words of an oath are prophetic weapons of spiritual warfare. You can use the oath that was taken on your wedding day, as a prophetic weapon to save your marriage and your home from the onslaught of the enemy. Those words makes your oath a blood sworn oath, because you took that vow in the Name of Jesus. You have the personal responsibility with that oath to save your marriage, in the same manner as Timothy fought to enforce the prophetic words in his life.

Don’t ever say that you can’t save your marriage, when you know that you are not fighting the devil with the blood sworn oath, which you took before God. The blood sworn oath of your marriage covenant is your prophetic weapon, to use in prophesying into your future and destiny in Christ. Fight the devil back with those words and save your marriage. The words of that oath are your bond to that man or woman. No matter what the enemy is doing right now, fight him back with those words until you win.

Every Christian do have the personal responsibility to make sure that, they are living in line with the promises which they gave to God, when they received Christ as the Lord and Savior of their lives. You promised to live righteously for Him alone till the end of your life on the earth. Are you living righteously for Him today? Or are you living to please people?

Remember how Jesus gave you salvation, healing and deliverance. You do have a personal responsibility to protect and prosper with what you received from Him. Those who are not living in accordance with their oath, are making a shipwreck of their faith in God today. That was why Paul warned Timothy to fight, so that his end would not be like that of those people.

Many have backslidden away from living in accordance with their oath before God. They have compromised their oath. They have polluted their Everlasting Covenant with God, because of the desires in them for the lustful pleasures of the world. And they are no more living as the children of the Light.

As the coronavirus pandemic is going on right now, it’s important that every Minister of the gospel puts their homes in order. Some have already fallen as victims to it, because they failed to turn away from following the pathway of the wicked, as this plague continues to ravage lives around you.

This is God’s warning to every minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. If you’re a Minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and you know that you have failed God by falling short of your oath before Him.

Remember:

“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

‭‭I Peter‬ ‭4:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

When we give our words to one another we are making covenant oaths. And those words that were uttered in the oath are binding, in the life of the individual who said those words. Your words are a reflection of who you are. You can’t change them arbitrarily, just because of the environment in which you live now. The world around you may be changing, but those words are unchangeable. The words of your oath will either move God to bless you. And if you violate the oath, those very words will be exploited by the devil to bring you the curse. They are your words. They came from your mouth. You are the prophet of your life. Those words do have spiritual consequences for violating them.

In my African history class as a teenager at high school, I had learnt that the root cause of tribal and inter-tribal wars in Africa, is the violation of an oath by one tribe with another tribe. They would fight to enforce the curses of the violation upon the tribe that violates the oath. These are not ordinary wars, as sometimes innocent blood may be shed.

The violating tribe becomes a curse within the region. One of the consequences of this was that no other tribe would ever want to do business with anyone from the cursed tribe. Among some tribes in Africa today, they will never give their children away in marriage to the tribe that violates covenant oath with them. The tribe has been judged to be unfaithful. Nothing can be done to remedy the violation of that covenant oath.

Even in the 19th century Africa if the colonial powers would try to mediate in restoring the covenant, they would be shunned. And sometimes the various tribes involved would all come together to fight the colonial powers as well.

Why would they have to resist any mediation for peace in between them so forcefully? It’s because of the covenant oath violation. Covenant violation is a big taboo among several African communities. You don’t ever break covenant with people. Otherwise you will have to face the wrath of the world around you.

As the whole world is passing through the plague of the coronavirus, it’s important for you as a Christian to re-evaluate your Covenant stand with God. Are you keeping faith to the words of your oath before Him?

Your words are your bond

The words in an oath settles every dispute under any covenant agreement. The world around you may change, but your words in the covenant oath cannot be changed. Just as God cannot change, your words are not revocable also. You will be held accountable for every idle words, that you are uttering about your Covenant with God and with people (Matthew 12:36).

Remember that:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus never changes. He is ever faithful to the oath that you took to follow Him. He shed His Blood on this earth, so that the Everlasting Covenant can become enforceable in the realm of the spirit. The devil knows and acknowledges the power in the Covenant Blood of Jesus Christ (James 2:19). It will be a violation of the Everlasting Covenant, if Jesus will have to compromise the Covenant, so as to fit into the changes of this world. The world may change, but the oath of the Everlasting Covenant is unchangeable.

The oath in a holy matrimony is another example. That oath binds the married man and woman together till death separates them. They may have issues in their marriages, but they are bond under the oath to always come together at the table, to settle it with one another because of that oath.

They are not supposed to go to courts before an unbeliever, so as to settle their differences with one another (1 Corinthians 6:1-11). They both cherish their sworn oath to one another. They do recognize that the curse will come upon them and their children for failing to live by their oath.

This is why there are many dysfunctional children in the world today. When married couples break covenants with one another, it brings the curse on them and on their children also. It’s a spiritual law. People don’t break their sworn oaths with one another.

In that marriage covenant they took an oath to live together, in riches and in poverty. The oath covers them for the blessing of good health, and the curse of sicknesses together till death separates them. That’s why young people needs to be taught, about the consequences of their actions, before exchanging the marital oath with one another in holy matrimony.

The sworn oath settles every disputes or arguments between married couples. And it’s okay for married couples to have disputes, as long as their sworn oath is not being violated. Otherwise you will have to be married to a robot, that can never reason together with you. Their ability to amicably resolve their disputes in a healthy manner together, helps them to become one in the marriage. This itself is a mystery of God which no marriage counsellor or psychologist can ever resolve (see Ephesians 5:31-33).

And the same thing goes with business dealings as a Christian. Don’t promise people what you cannot do. Your words are a reflection of who you are. The finances of the business can be drained, because you’re breaking your oath or promises to business partners or customers.

The Bible says:

“For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Without the taking of an oath a covenant is not binding. The taking of oath in the presence of a greater person in authority, makes the covenant binding and irrevocable. Any form of dispute or argument between the parties to the covenant ceases, as soon as one of them invokes the oath that, they both took together before the witness. This is what the Bible scripture above is saying.

Any attempt to ignore the oath is an invitation for the curse, which follows the violation of the covenant, to come upon and overtake the violators. It is a costly mistake for anyone in a covenant relationship, to violate the oath that they took in that covenant (Deuteronomy 28:15).

Sin against the Everlasting Covenant of God is a violation of the oath, that was taken to live before Him with good conscience. What are you doing in your Covenant stand before the Lord, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the world around you? Selah!
