They come in riddles, but also in puzzles that are yet to be resolved

God will never do anything without first making it known to His people. He always announces His judgment before bringing it to come to pass.

Those who are paying attention to His word will save their own souls, but the foolish at heart will continue doing wickedness, until he faces the judgment of the Lord.

The wicked man who turns away from his wickedness, after hearing the judgment of the Lord will save his own soul. And the righteous man who ignores the judgment of the Lord, even though he sees the wisdom of God in it, will have himself to blame for not doing anything about it:

“ .. Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”
‭‭John‬ ‭9‬:‭39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Those with the heart that’s entrenched in God’s love will understand His judgment of this world. God is full of compassion. He is not interested in the destruction of the wicked, but He wants the wicked to turn away from his wickedness and return back to Him.

God is seeking righteousness on the earth with His judgement, and those who are living righteously before Him will escape it. His aim in establishing His righteousness on the earth, is for those who do not know Him to be given the opportunity to repent and be saved from the wrath of His judgment.

Jesus came to the earth in order to give us the opportunity to become righteous before God. He came for the establishment of God’s judgment on the earth, so as to bring us salvation through it for those who are lost, and God’s wrath upon those who are rejecting His offer of salvation.

Those who are smart and wise in seeing His judgment coming are seeking His face daily. But the foolish on the other hand are increasingly getting more wicked with their wickedness.

How can they ever escape the judgment of the Lord? Yes, God is about to judge the nations. It’s only the nations that are walking in righteousness that will escape His wrath.

The fool in the delusion of his heart had thought that the notion of God’s judgment is nothing, but scary fairy tales that are not realistic in their lost world. He has been caught in the deception of his heart, because whether he likes it or not the judgment of the Lord is coming.

Riddles and puzzles in the scriptures are not the same

They must not be confused or misplaced with one another

Throughout the scriptures we can see God revealing His judgment in the form of allegories or dark sayings. Jesus often used Parables in speaking directly to the religious people of His time about it.

He knew that they understood what He was saying, but they were not prepared to accept His words, because of their familiarity with His family background at Nazareth. They refused to accept that He was the Prophet sent from God to them.

Just as familiarity breed the contempt of the message of Christ to the religious people in the time of Jesus, it is breeding contempt today also among the religious people of our world. The same message of salvation that’s saving souls today, is the very message that the foolish at heart has despised.

A parable or a riddle is not like a puzzle or dark (mysterious) saying. Whenever Jesus spoke in parables those who are listening and paying attention to His words understood Him. A riddle never hides the mind of God, but a puzzle does.

When Samson gave a riddle to the Philistines, it’s evident that they were not paying attention to what he had said to them. That’s why it was difficult for them to understand it:

“So, he said to them: “Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the strong came something sweet.” Now for three days they could not explain the riddle.”
‭‭Judges‬ ‭14‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The riddle of Samson is full of spiritual symbolism to our world today. It will take a person who is walking with the Lord to understand its applied symbolism to our world.

The Philistines understandably were not on God’s side. They do not have the mindset about the God of Israel. This explains why the riddle of Samson was mysterious to them. For three days they could not explain it, until they finally had to threaten his bride, to help them in understanding what it meant.

A riddle is normally intended for an audience that understands its meaning. But a puzzle on the other hand is tied up in mysteries, which can only be untied in the wisdom of God.

On the other hand, when Daniel saw the vision of the ram and the goat in Daniel chapter eight, it was puzzling to him. He had to seek the face of the Father with fasting and prayer, to be able to understand it.

As he prayed the angel Gabriel appeared to him, so as to give him insight and understanding of those things which he had seen. Gabriel told him not to pay attention to certain parts of the vision, because they have to do with things that are yet to happen.

What was puzzling to Daniel has to do with something that pointed to the future. Daniel wrote at the end of his encounter with Gabriel:

“And I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for days; afterward I arose and went about the king’s business. I was astonished by the vision, but no one understood it.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭8‬:‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He was astonished by what he had seen. In other words, it was still a mystery to him, in spite of all the fasting and prayers to understand it.

The very fact that Gabriel had told him not to be worried about what he could not understand, suggests that it was not meant for him to understand. It was revealed to Daniel so that he could write it down, for those in the distant future after him to untie the mystery in it.

Daniel was devoted to understanding many mysteries. He lived among a people in Babylon, who were always looking for ways to destroy him. But in the midst of so much antagonism to the wisdom in God’s word, God lifted him up and promoted him.

The scripture says that the Queen of Babylon had advised the king, during a time of great difficulty to consult with Daniel on puzzling issues. She said to the King:

“Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The same Daniel who was despised and hated, became the source into understanding the wisdom of God to that generation. God lifted Daniel up in the midst of his enemies.

Moses had told the Israelites also, during the last speech before his departure from them that:

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭29‬:‭29‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

A secret is always hidden; but the moment it is revealed to us, it is no longer a secret. A mystery that is yet to be understood is therefore a secret. It is a puzzle that has to be resolved.

Moses said in that very verse that such secrets things, were not for the people who were not paying attention. Neither are those things for their children. They were only supposed to follow the law and its guidelines as he had revealed it to them, if they were to be pleasing God in all their ways.

He warned them that any refusal to follow the law and its guidelines will invoke the judgment of God. Judgment comes in every act of disobedience to the word of God.

But for us today there is nothing that is supposed to be mysterious or puzzling any longer, because all mysteries and puzzles are revealed to us in Christ Jesus.

The Holy Spirit will resolve all mysteries

Whatever is puzzling is resolved through prayer and intercession

That’s why we do have the Holy Spirit living inside of us today, so as to reveal the mysteries and secrets of all things to us. The Holy Spirit helps us into understanding those things that are hidden to us.

Jesus had said:

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I strongly believe that there are many secret things of God, that the Church has not been about to tap into. The insight and understanding of the workings of God to our generation are yet to be revealed to us. As the Apostle Paul said concerning our judgment of those things:

“Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He said again:

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭11‬:‭33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

There are puzzling mysteries that are yet to be untied by the Church today. In a world that is increasingly evil it is only the Holy Spirit that can explain those things to us. The judgment of God is unsearchable. We need the Holy Spirit to bring it out from His presence to our understanding.

Concerning the conviction of sin and judgment Jesus said about the Holy Spirit’s role:

“And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭8‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Not only does the Holy Spirit unlock the revelation of mysterious things to us. He will also guide us into the purpose of God in those mysteries.

That’s why we are filled with the Holy Spirit. Our ability to pray in the spirit and by the Spirit leads us into the unveiling of those mysteries of God. God reveals His secret things to us in accordance with the scriptures, as we continue to seek His face at all times praying in the spirit.

The Bible says:

“Therefore, let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭14‬:‭13‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Even though we do speak in a tongue (puzzling language), we are however supposed to be asking God for the understanding of those things that we are saying. When we are praying in an unknown tongue, we ought to be praying for the interpretation of the mysteries, that are coming out of the mouth. That unknown tongue may have your clue into understanding certain puzzling things in the scriptures, that are meant to edify the Body of Christ.

Oftentimes the interpretation of the puzzle (mystery) will come to us, if we are yielded to the Holy Spirit to be speaking through our mouth. A Christian who is surrendered to the leading of the Holy Spirit has no difficulty in interpreting his puzzling language (tongue).

But there are certain mysteries of God that are tied up in the scriptures. They are there for a reason. They are there for those who are wise to search them out. They are there to reveal the judgment of God which is unsearchable to us.

Daniel fasted and prayed to understand the mysteries of God that he had seen. Even though he knew that it was not meant for his time, he had sought the face of God concerning it.

The Lord God responded to his prayer by sending the angel Gabriel to him, who gave him insight and understanding into those things. He had told Daniel:

“He instructed me and said to me, “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.”
‭‭Daniel‬ ‭9‬:‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Daniel needed help in understanding what he had seen. He took the time out of his busy schedule as an official of the Babylonian government, to seek the face of his God about it. Daniel never had the Holy Spirit living in him, as we are opportune today to be fellowshipping with Him. He was not even involved in full time ministry, as he was working as a top government official in the Babylonian government. No matter how highly placed you may be within an evil and corrupt system of government, God will give you insight and understanding, if you will yield yourself to praying in the spirit.

Prayer unlocks the mysteries of God to us from the scriptures. How often are you praying in the spirit? Nothing will catch you by surprise, if you are yielded to the Spirit of God in your life, to be praying and interceding.

About speaking in mysteries Jesus told the disciples:

“These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This is the dispensation when we are supposed to be knowledgeable about the mind of the Father. The Holy Spirit reveals the mind of God to us in all things, so that we can be able to be following in His judgment.

The use of Parables by Jesus is meant for the understanding of those who are wise. Oftentimes when the Pharisees heard Him speaking in Parables, they knew that He was talking about them in allegories and dark sayings.

Jesus never had to explain His parables or riddles to the religious people. He knew that they understood them.

The more the disciples were paying careful attention to the words of Jesus, the more they began to understand Him. You will never be able to understand the scriptures, if you are not paying attention to the words of Jesus. The revelation of Jesus is in His spoken words.

When we are praying in the spirit, we ought to be praying for the understanding of those mysteries also. God can only reveal His mysteries to those who are praying to understand them.

In your prayer life are you praying for the understanding of the mind of God, concerning those things that are going on around you. I am praying in the spirit and praying in the understanding also for you, so that you can become stronger and bolder in the realm of the spirit. Those puzzling or mysterious things are meant for you to search out and understand.
