King David in the Old Testament is often seen as a symbol, or type of Christ in the New Testament. In the same way, Israel as a Nation is typologically the Church (the body of Christ) in the New Testament.
Christ Jesus is of a direct lineage to King David (Matthew 1:1-17). He was often referred to as the Son of David, or the Root of Jesse during His time here on earth.
As a direct descendant to King David, Jesus was not only the legitimate heir to the throne of Israel. He is also the soon and coming King of Israel, as well as the King of all the kings of the whole world (Revelation 19:16).
As the King of kings, Jesus is the Supreme Authority over all Presidents, Prime Ministers and Heads of Governments of the whole world. God’s promise to eternally give the throne of Israel to the seed of David, was permanently sealed up in Christ Jesus. This uniquely puts the nation of Israel in a special position of spiritual authority in the world. God blesses those who bless Israel, and He will always show His anger upon those who stand against Israel – God’s special people.
There is no way that we as the body of Christ and the nation of Israel, can ever be separated from one another. It’s the way God designed the relationship between both of us to be eternally (Ephesians 2:15-16; 3:6).
 BRINGING BACK THE KING
There was a time during the reign of King David, that he had to abscond the throne for a short period of time. This was due to the rebellion of his son, Absalom against him.
In the battle that later ensued between the armies of David and Absalom; Absalom was murdered, and the rebellion was crushed.
There was uncertainty in the air as a result of the crushing of the rebellion. David was mourning the loss of his son, and the people were trying to figure out, what was going to happen due to the death of the king’s son. Joab (the commandant of the army) had just finished advising King David about the vacuum in power, that had been created in Israel when David absconded the throne. David was advised to stop mourning, and to fill up the vacuum of power. Joab was basically telling David at the time, to rise up and start reigning again over the kingdom. Or simply put: “TAKE BACK YOUR THRONE”.
It was after that conversation between David and Joab, that the following dialogue occurred. The scriptures says:
“So King David sent to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, saying, “Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house, since the words of all Israel have come to the king, to his very house? You are my brethren, you are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?’ And say to Amasa, ‘ Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you are not commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab.’ ” So he swayed the hearts of all the men of Judah, just as the heart of one man, so that they sent this word to the king: “Return, you and all your servants!””
‭‭II Samuel‬ ‭19:11-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
These words of King David does in fact, resonates strongly with the body of Christ today. His message to the elders of Israel at that time, is being echoed in the message of Christ to the Church today.
Jesus is saying to the Church today:
“You are my relatives, my own flesh and blood. So why should you be the last to bring back the king?’”
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭19:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Our response all over the earth ought to be:
“…“Return, you (King Jesus) and all your men (the hosts of heaven).””
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭19:14‬ b NIV‬‬
BEGIN TO REIGN ON EARTH NOW IN HIS NAME
Jesus Christ is seated on the throne this day in the heavenly places. And we are seated together with Him in the spirit (Ephesians 2:6) right there. This is our position of authority and strength, in using His name to reign with Him on earth right now.
A believer that cannot see him/her self seated on the throne, in Christ Jesus will always be defeated by the enemy. This is very important for us to be able to reign here on earth.
Even though we are seated together with Him, in the heavenly places right now. But here on earth Jesus is waiting on us to use the authority in His name, that we had received to prepare the way for His return. He had given us the authority to take the kingdom of this world back from the Devil. But unfortunately not everyone has been making use of that authority.
Every born again child of God has a kingdom duty, to bring back the King of kings and Lord of lords. Christ is counting on us to prepare the way for His return. When we use His name to enforce His Kingdom on earth, Christ will begin to reign with us. He has given us everything that we need to do this in His name.
Our job is to start bringing Him back first in our personal lives, as the King of kings and Lord of lords. Bring Him back in righteousness and holiness. Bring Him back with healing on His wings. Bring Him back to establish righteousness on earth.
We need to start bringing Jesus and His kingdom back, and not our own small cliques, groups or people. When we bring Him back into our personal lives, it will be easier for us to bring Him back every where else.
Jesus is asking you the very question that David asked the elders of Israel at that time:
“What are you going to be doing about bringing back the King?”
PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS IN HIS NAME
You may be wondering: “what is my role supposed to be in bringing Him back?”; “How and what can I do?”
Or “I thought Christ will return at a time that only God knows?” Yes of course, only God determines the time of His return. But as Christians we all still have a role to play in all of these. God will not send Him back, until we get the job done here on earth.
Remember that Jesus said:
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬
These are the very words of Jesus pointing us all clearly, to the fact that the gospel of the Kingdom has to be preached first to all nations, all tribes and all tongues. After that the end will come. The end will come with His return to rule and reign here on earth (Revelation 20:4-6).
It is interesting that Jesus never sent out His disciples to start a Church, or set up a religious organization, or to create a religious clique. No, He sent us all out to make disciples of all nations. So what are you going to do about bringing back your King.
You see, every time we live our Christian lives, with His last command to every believer at heart, we are preparing the way for His return. David asked the elders of Israel:
“You are my relatives, my own flesh and blood. So why should you be the last to bring back the king?’”
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭19:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
We are one with Christ, His relatives bought with His own flesh and blood. It is our duty as His kinsmen to bring Him back, to start reigning here on earth with us. Jesus’ greatest desire is to be with us – His kinsmen. We must stop delaying the return of the King of kings. I know within my heart that Christ is counting on us to start doing everything in bringing Him back.
JOHN PREPARED HIS WAY TO THE CROSS – WHAT WILL YOU DO IN BRINGING HIM BACK?
John the Baptist came the first time, to prepare the way for His ministry here on earth. We also have the call from above, to prepare the way for His return again. If John, the Baptist faithfully finished his own part to bring Him into revelation; that we may be saved. What are you going to do about doing your own part?
What was John doing in preparing His way? John was preaching repentance from dead works in the wilderness (Matthew 3). He was preparing the way for the revelation of Christ, to the Nation of Israel by preaching repentance from dead works. But repentance from dead works does not bring salvation to anyone. Jesus came after John exposed Him to the world, to bring salvation to the earth.
In the same manner every believer in Christ does have the call of God, to prepare the way for His return. We all have a role to play in preparing the way for His return. We do this by obeying His last command to us:
“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬
We are bringing back the King, every time we obey Jesus’ last command to us in the scriptures. We all had been called into the Kingdom of God to preach the gospel, and prepare the way to bring back our King.
Every believer in the early Church became a preacher. They went everywhere preaching salvation to their world. If you are a believer like them, you ought to be doing more than what they did. There are better means and much more productive ways to preach the good news these days. So what are you going to do about bringing back your King.
You see the difference between our message, and the message of John the Baptist is very clear. John only preached repentance from dead works. We are not preaching dead works. We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. That is something that John never had. We are better prepared and better equipped to take this gospel to the end of the earth. What are you doing about it?
That is why our message of salvation as Christians, to the world today is very important to save the world before Christ’s return. It is a very simple message that every believer can declare:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬
This is the gospel that prepares the way for the Lord to return. It is the gospel of love and salvation. As we proclaim it we are declaring that He will be back.
HOLY COMMUNION IN BRINGING BACK THE KING
In preparing the way of the Lord’s return, Paul reiterated our role again to us as we partake of the Lord’s table in Holy Communion:
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:26‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Whenever we partake of the bread and the wine in the presence of the Lord, we are reminded of our crucial role in preparing the way of the Lord. But for us to be able to do this, we must be able to see it first in the spirit. It is important to have a vision for those who are lost. A vision that is fresh and refreshed at the communion table, every time we partake of it. That vision will empower us to go about the work of the Kingdom, and bring our King back as we proclaim His death and resurrection.
We must be able to use our faith in meeting the spiritual needs of a lost world. When we partake of the Holy Communion during the resurrection celebration, we must remember that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. That is why we had been called into the Kingdom for such a time like this.
Jesus did not save us, so we can be having good times every Sunday in Church. He never saved you, so that you can just fellowship with your own types all the time. Heaven is bigger and larger than any Church congregation on earth. And the body of Christ is bigger and stronger than any denomination or Christian religious group. As born again children of God, we must begin to walk in the last commandment of Jesus to the Church before His ascension.
Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Just as king David was waiting for Israel to bring him back into his palace, Jesus is waiting on the Church to do the right thing in bringing Him back to His rightful place on earth – as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
What are you going to do in bringing Him back? It is unfortunate when we partake of the Lord’s table, without grabbing a hold of the vision for the lost ones around us. As Paul said:
“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:28-29‬ ‭NIV‬‬
As you prepare to celebrate His resurrection, begin to think about what you are going to do about bringing the King of kings back. This coming Resurrection Sunday make up your mind, to properly discern the body and the blood of Christ in Communion with Him. You have a couple of weeks more to decide before going to the Lord’s table. Dare to begin doing something about bringing back King Jesus to reign in righteousness, holiness and in the lost world around you.
Let others enjoy the benefits of the kingdom of God just as you are enjoying it now. Do not allow anyone in sin to die in sin, or anyone that is sick to die in sickness. You have something in you that can change their lives. You have the name of Jesus with you. That’s why you can purpose in your heart, to go into all the world and begin proclaiming salvation, healing, deliverance and the blessing of the Lord. The world is waiting on you to come. What are you going to do? Bring back our King.
