An encounter with the Lord opens the spiritual eye of the righteous to the wickedness around him. When a Christian is continually living righteously before the Lord, he is given access into His presence.
And as he gets into God’s presence his spiritual eye of understanding is opened, to see through the corruption and evil, which are going on in the world around him.
Without the help of the Lord, he is unable to see things on the earth as God sees them. The Lord God exposes to him every evil works of the wicked, so that he can be able to start speaking against them. Every time he opens his mouth to speak against evil, the righteous man is pronouncing God’s judgement on the wicked.
Whenever God exposes wickedness to us, He expects us to do something about it. He expects us to start speaking His judgement against it. The Lord God sees the righteous man as His instrument in bringing His judgement on the earth. God can only work through His righteous people on the earth in establishing His righteousness within it.
Judgement emanates from the presence of the Lord, as the righteous man becomes enlightened into seeing the wickedness around him. He becomes strongly and firmly positioned before the Lord God to be declaring His judgement upon wickedness.
And because the righteous man praises the Lord God at all times, he is endowed with the presence of the Lord. It’s from this high position of praise that he begins to speak, the counsel of the Lord to the wickedness around him.
He utters the judgement of God upon the wicked, exactly as it has been revealed to him from above. There is no holding back for him in the declaration of God’s judgement. It has to go forth from his mouth. Evil has to be judged by the Lord.
The Lord finds the righteous as the most qualified through whom, He can express Himself in His judgement of wickedness on the earth.
God will never change his mind about judgement
David once said in one of his numerous encounters with the Lord, about judging the wicked who had surrounded him:
“O God, come and slay these bloodthirsty, murderous men! For I cry out, “Depart from me, you wicked ones!” See how they blaspheme your sacred name and lift up themselves against you, but all in vain!”
Psalms 139:19-20 TPT
David judged the wicked with the words of his mouth. In some other situations he had kept quiet as he waited for the manifestation of the judgement of God on the wicked. He knew that the Lord his God would judge the wicked, so he waited patiently in His presence for His judgement to come. (1 Samuel 25:37-39).
And in some other cases he had directed his son (Solomon) to wait for the right time after his death, before executing the righteous judgement of God on the wicked (1 Kings 2).
David was a man who strongly believed in the judgement of the Lord over the wicked. In most cases he would wait for the Lord to bring His judgement to come to pass. He would never judge without the presence of the Lord going before him. He taught his son (Solomon) to wait on the Lord before judging the wicked.
David said in another place:
“The Lord preserves all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and all flesh shall bless His holy name Forever and ever.”
Psalms 145:20-21 NKJV
David saw wickedness as God saw it. The wicked had been using the name of the Lord in vain around him to do evil. David had been wandering in the wilderness with bloodthirsty men, who did not fear the name of the Lord God at all.
The bloodthirsty men had aligned themselves with him to fight in his army. But as he sojourned in the wilderness with them, it’s interesting to see that the Lord God was prospering David. He was growing stronger and stronger, as he hanged around the wicked.
Our God alone knows how to turn around the wealth of the wicked into the hands of the righteous. David prospered in the midst of wickedness. He won every battle that he fought, because he was fighting the Lord’s battles.
But as he was prospering David had little or no time for the works of the wicked around him. He knew that there was nothing he could had done to make the wicked to turn away from wickedness.
The wicked man will often claim to know the way of the Lord, but his heart is steadfastly committed to doing evil. Evil is not far from his lips, because it is the inclination of his heart to do evil.
And if he hears about the judgement of the Lord coming upon his wickedness, the wicked man will turn his face away for a while from doing evil.
The wicked man is hoping that the Lord will be merciful to him and repent of His coming judgement on him. But even though the Lord may be merciful to the wicked, for turning away from his wicked ways. It’s however impossible for God to shun wickedness. He will judge the evil works of wickedness.
He will never change for as long as the crocodile can never change its skin. Even though the wicked may change like a chameleon, so as to do good sometimes. But he is always wicked. He will never turn away completely from doing evil; especially since the inclination of his heart is progressively towards it.
Since the wicked man cannot stop doing evil, then the judgement of the Lord will certainly come upon him.
David was in the midst of wicked men in the wilderness, and he sometimes never knew it. He had opened his heart to be good to all men, but it’s not all men who were good to him.
It eventually took a supernatural encounter with the Lord to open his spiritual eye of understanding, into seeing the works of the wicked. The wicked had been slothful and deceitful to him in all their ways.
So, in uttering his judgement on the wicked David had wished that God would just slay them, as they had been blaspheming the name of the Lord around him.
They were putting the name of the Lord on their lips so as to deceive the righteous, while inwardly their heart was not steadfastly devoted to God. The wicked loves wickedness more than he loves righteousness.
David therefore was able to declare after seeing the wickedness of the wicked. He had said to the Lord:
“May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.’”
Psalms 132:9 NIV
In the midst of the wickedness that surrounded him, David’s ultimate heart desire was to be clothed with God’s righteousness. Righteousness became his protection from the evil men around him every day.
By singing for joy in God’s presence, those who are faithful to the Lord will be increasingly established in righteousness. And in righteousness they will judge the wicked.
Therefore:
“Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute on them the written judgment— This honor have all His saints. Praise the Lord!”
Psalms 149:5-9 NKJV
