There are certain Christians who do think that there is really nothing spiritual concerning the human body. This misconception on their part has resulted in the defilement of their physical bodies.
The scriptures however say:
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s”.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV
The Spirit of God lives inside the physical body of every child of God. He communicates with the born-again spirit man (the real man in you) by His Spirit who lives in you.
This makes us spiritual beings and not necessarily the physical man that the world around you see and interact with every day. A Christian who does not know this, is in the danger of being tricked and deceived by the devil.
Consequently, many of them have fallen sick, even with long term illnesses. Others have become very weak in their resistance by faith against the wiles of the devil. They are struggling to stand in the victory which Christ had given them.
We can’t be overlooking the spirituality of our physical bodies as Christians. It’s something that should never be treated lightly.
Many have fallen away from the grace of God because of this. The enemy is exploiting the lack of appropriate oversight over the body to lure them deeper into sin.
Do you know that Jesus didn’t just die on the cross physically? He also died spiritually. And as a result of His spiritual death on the cross, He was separated from God. God, the Father had to physically and spiritually raise Him up from the dead (Colossians 2:12).
God, the Father had to intervene on behalf of His Son, by quickening His mortal body into life by His Spirit. He never allowed the physical body of His Son to see or experience earthly corruption (Acts 13:35).
The physical Body of Jesus was never allowed to be corrupted in death. His Body was never defiled by the enemy.
The Lord takes very seriously whatever everyone of His children is doing with their physical bodies on the earth.
There is however a strong connection between the application of the word of God and the human body. This connection is what has made the physical body of a Christian spiritual.
As the people of God, we do have the obligation to be walking in obedience to His word. You are only a Christian for as long as you are living in obedience to God’s word. We don’t live the Christian life to please ourselves, but Him alone.
Your act of faith by walking in obedience to the scriptures, is what brings the power of the Holy Spirit to manifest in your physical body.
And the Holy Spirit is a Gentleman. He will never go to a place where He has not been invited. Our ability to live and walk continually in obedience to God’s word is our invitation to Him in blessing us, healing us, delivering us and prospering us.
That was why the Lord warned the Israelites while they were still in the wilderness, about the danger of disobeying His Word. He told them:
“If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE Lord YOUR GOD, then the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues—great and prolonged plagues—and serious and prolonged sicknesses.”
Deuteronomy 28:58-59 NKJV
As Christians we do have choices to make in life. Our everyday choices determine our destinies in life. If you choose to obey God’s word, then you are choosing to be blessed, healed, delivered and prosper. If you do choose not to obey God’s word, then you are obviously choosing the curse, which includes sicknesses, diseases, poverty and the bondage to the law of sin and death (Deuteronomy 30:15-20).
The choices of either life or death is made from the heart of every human being. We choose life or death by believing or not believing with the heart. Whatever choice is made comes from the heart, and it’s manifested in the physical body. Your body is therefore spiritual, because it is being affected by what you are saying every day, from your heart with your mouth.
Every blessing of the Lord comes into our lives, as long as we are fulfilling the conditions that goes with each one of them. If we are walking in obedience to the word of the Lord, His blessing of healing and good health will automatically be following us.
But when people begin to put their own interpretations and understandings into the word of God, so as to realign it with their personal worldviews, then they can’t escape the judgment of the Lord that follows a disobedient heart to His word.
God’s word means whatever it says, and it should never be taken lightly. Every alphabet and punctuation marks have meanings. The only reason the Bible was written in verses, is to make it easier for us to understand what it’s saying.
There is no reason why a Christian should be reading and interpreting scriptures, with the intention of finding an excuse for fulfilling the lust of the flesh. This is exactly what those who see no correlation between the spirit realm and the human body are doing.
The human body is the dwelling place of the Spirit of the Lord on this earth. When Christians are refusing to accept this spiritual truth, they are giving an opening for the enemy to attack their physical bodies.
Of course, the enemy will exploit their misguided mindset, so as to keep on afflicting them with sicknesses and diseases.
Many who sees nothing spiritual about the human body, do often sees their sicknesses and diseases as being of natural occurrences. They do believe that they have fallen sick due to natural causes alone. In most cases they don’t see any spiritual underlying causes to their physical illnesses.
But we do understand from the scriptures however that God Almighty created the human body, as the habitation for His Spirit within us. As the Apostle Paul once told the Athenians:
“For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”
Acts 17:28 NKJV
We are the offspring of God Almighty. Every human being originates from God – spirit, soul and body. God – Who is Spirit lives in us (John 4:24).
And the devil who is a spiritual being also, had lost his position of glory when he rebelled against God Almighty, before the earth was ever created (Isaiah 14:12-21).
The devil has no spiritual authority or hold over your life as a Christian. There is therefore no reason why any Christian should be living life on this earth by obeying the lust of the flesh.
This is a spiritual truth which must never be ignored. When you are yielding to the lust of the flesh within you, you are giving the devil an opening into your spiritual life. And consequently, you are giving him the permission to make you sick.
God had created us with the physical body on this earth, so that we can have the rule and dominion over the devil and his cohorts.
The enemy has no rule or dominion over the life of the newest born-again child of God. The least and the newest person in God’s Kingdom have all authority over him. We however can’t exercise this authority without the help of the God Who’s living inside of us.
That’s why we had been created in the image of Christ, from the moment when we got born-again by His Spirit. God now lives in us.
That’s why the body of a born-again child of God is spiritual. You are a spiritual person, and you reign on this earth with your physical body, which houses the Spirit of God.
If as a Christian you do acknowledge that God’s Spirit had quickened your mortal body to live for Him on the earth, then you are a spiritual being (Romans 8:11).
And your physical body has become the habitation of the Holy God who created the universe.
The human body is therefore both spiritual and physical. We are first of all spiritual beings who had been created in Christ’s image.
And secondly because we do live in a natural world, we do require a natural body to prosper on the earth in the demonstration of the power of God’s word. The Spirit of God needs our physical bodies as the vehicle of His expression on the earth.
Protect your sanctified body!
As Christians since we do live in sanctified human bodies, our bodies no longer belong to us. It belongs to the God Who lives in us.
In the same manner the person who is possessed by the devil has yielded his body to the devil.
Whosoever you are yielding your body to in obedience is your Lord. You can yield it to God so as to live in holiness. You can also choose to yield it to the devil, so as to obey his sinful lust. It’s a matter of choosing between life and death. And no one can make the choice for you.
By inviting Jesus and the Holy Spirit into our lives, we had yielded our physical bodies to them. The sanctification of our physical bodies makes us holy to the Lord. We are therefore God’s Holy Temple.
As the scriptures says:
“By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
Hebrews 10:10, 14 NKJV
Christ has made us perfect (spiritually matured) in everything that we are doing on the earth in our sanctified bodies.
If therefore perfection has made us inaccessible to the devil, then Christ Jesus is indeed our perfection. The devil sees Christ Jesus in you whenever he sees you.
The scriptures say again:
“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,”
Hebrews 12:22-23 NKJV
You are now a member of “the spirits of just men made perfect” by the blood of Jesus Christ. Your body is sanctified and ready to be used for God’s glory. Don’t ever yield it to obey the lust of the flesh.
The devil will definitely come after you with all manners of temptation, but you can always use your authority as a child of God to resist him.
Christ is our Perfection and Sanctification. And the sanctification of our bodies is achieved, as we are committed to living a lifestyle of faith in God’s word (1 Peter 3:15).
Sanctification or perfection does not come by obeying a set of rules (Ephesians 5:26).
It comes by exercising your faith in Christ Jesus at all times. The grace of God is available to you if you are living by faith. God’s grace will carry you into sanctification.
There are those who do think that holiness has everything to do with, what they are not supposed to be doing as Christians.
On the contrary holiness is simply being obedient to the Spirit of the Holy God, who lives in us as Christians. And it takes a lifestyle of faith to be living in constant obedience to God.
As the scriptures says:
“So also, faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).”
James 2:17 AMPC
Faith without the works of obedience to God’s word is dead. If your works of faith can’t be proved with obedience to God’s word, then you are not living a sanctified life or holy life before God. There is no practical way to live a sanctified life without faith in the finished and perfect work of Christ Jesus.
God’s power flows through those who are living by faith and walking in obedience to the word of God. Disobedience to God’s word cuts short the power of God in the life of a Christian.
The corresponding action in your work of faith is revealed through your acts of obedience to God’s word. Faith without the works of obedience before the Lord to His written word is dead and worthless (James 2:20).
Obedience to God’s written and spoken word is what holiness is all about. It’s not about what you are not supposed to be doing as a Christian.
It’s about what you are supposed to be doing in obedience to Him. You may fail sometimes on your pathway to perfection, but as long as you are resolute to be living in obedience to the word of God, you will eventually make it.
And there is no Christian who has not missed the mark before. The good news is that when a Christian fails in the walk towards perfection, it is important to be quick with repentance and get back on track again (1 John 1:8-10).
Failure to repent is what often prevents many Christians from being sanctified at heart and in the body. The devil exploits this failure to gain access into their lives. Wherever there is a disobedient heart before the Lord God, the presence of other sins cannot be very far in that life.
That’s why it’s important to always set our hearts to obey God’s word, as it affects everything that we are doing in life. Let God’s word be your golden standard, and it will lift you up before the Lord.
The blood of Jesus Christ had sanctified you, as you released your faith to walk in obedience to God’s word always:
“For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
Hebrews 9:13-14 NKJV
An unsanctified body always gets sick!
And because you are living a sanctified life, the enemy therefore has no legal standing to put sicknesses and diseases on your body. You have been given all authority in heaven and on earth over him. And the exercise of your spiritual authority over him with regards to the physical body, makes you a terror to him.
Sicknesses and diseases cannot stay on your body, for as long as you are exercising your spiritual authority by resisting him and standing up against him.
Sicknesses and diseases in the body may have both physical and spiritual causes, but the Lord healed them all (Proverbs 26:2).
The physical and spiritual causes of ailments in the body falls under the curse of sin and death, which Christ had already delivered us from as believers in His name (Galatians 3:13-14).
The spiritual causes of sicknesses and diseases are from the devil. And he is the primary source of them all. Healing and good health however comes from the Lord. Jesus Christ is your Healer:
“Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”
I Peter 2:24 NKJV
However, if a Christian is not living by the leading of the Holy Spirit, he may be deceived into believing that the causes of all illnesses are physical.
In fact, a natural man sees sicknesses and diseases from this perspective. Everything has a natural cause to such a person.
With that being said the physical causes of sicknesses and diseases, are due to the ignorance of the believer in Christ with regards to what the Lord had promised him in the scriptures.
Ignorance is one of the reasons why many are dying of sicknesses and diseases. It’s important for us as Christians to get ourselves well educated, about what duly belongs to us in Christ Jesus.
Another physical cause of sicknesses and diseases has to do with being negligent concerning the things, that we are supposed to be doing to stay physically healthy.
If a Christian is being ignorant or (and) negligent about being healed, such a person may die and still go to heaven.
But the Lord is not the one who takes such lives away unexpectedly. It is the devil who has taken their lives away, as a result of their own ignorance or (and) negligence.
Stay protected through Holy Communion!
So, stop seeing yourself as being an ordinary person. You are in Christ Jesus. And Christ now lives in you. That’s why it’s important to be reminding yourself of the presence of the Lord in your life, as you are taking the holy communion.
Jesus said:
“This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.”
John 6:50-51, 53-57 NKJV
Jesus is our Sanctification and our Healer. Whenever we are partaking of the holy communion, we are not eating just some crackers or drinking juice.
We are eating His body and drinking His blood. And these two holy communion elements make your sanctification and healing very real to you in your physical body.
You become one with Christ Jesus as you partake of His Body and His Blood. No sicknesses and diseases can touch the physical body where Christ is living. Your body has been set apart for God’s glory.
You are therefore sanctified and healed. The more often you are saying these things to yourself, the more they will become real in your life.
Practice getting yourself to the table of the Lord’s Covenant on a regular basis in holy communion.
Judge yourself first to be sure that your heart is cleared before taking holy communion. Then watch the devil flee away in terror of who you are in Christ Jesus, as you partake of it by personalizing the words of Jesus above to yourself.
Stay healed and healthy in your sanctified body, by winning souls into God’s Kingdom and healing others who are sick in the name of Jesus.
Jesus said you ought to be doing this with your sanctified and healed body:
“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Mark 16:17-18 NKJV
Your act of obedience to His last command on the earth to every believer in His name, will keep you sanctified, healed and stronger in Him.
This is positively amazing and the gospel message has already given me great strength being so much educative. Thank you for this wonderful BLESSING in JESUS NAME, AMEN.
